Competition Opportunities

At Rome City Institute, our Basketball program offers diverse competitive opportunities designed to challenge and develop our student-athletes. These platforms allow players to showcase their skills, gain invaluable experience, and connect with Italy’s rich basketball culture, whether through semi-professional leagues, university competitions, or intra-institute events.

Rome City Men’s Basketball Team

Our men’s basketball team competes at the semi-professional level, providing players with the chance to experience high-level competition against some of Italy’s most talented teams. This environment challenges athletes to elevate their game while preparing them for potential professional opportunities. Players benefit from exposure to scouts, coaches, and the broader basketball community in Italy, all while representing Rome City Institute at an elite level.

University League of Rome
Rome City Institute student-athletes will also participate in the University League of Rome, one of Italy’s most prominent inter-university basketball competitions. With 14 universities from across the city competing, this league offers a high level of competition and provides an excellent platform for athletes to develop their game and represent the Institute. The season runs from October to May and includes a regular season followed by playoffs.

Empire Collegiate League
Within Rome City Institute, athletes can participate in the Empire Collegiate League, an engaging intra-institute competition. Each student-athlete is drafted into one of the four houses—Gladiators, Legionarius, Senators, or Kings—and competes in matches throughout the season. This league fosters camaraderie, encourages healthy competition, and allows athletes to build lasting friendships while enhancing their skills in a fun yet competitive atmosphere.

Club Placement Opportunities
Rome City Institute actively collaborates with local professional, semi-professional, and amateur basketball clubs to provide unique placement opportunities for our most talented athletes. While signing with a club is not guaranteed, those who do are exposed to an incredible learning experience by training and competing at a higher level. Players who join a club will not be eligible to participate in the University League of Rome, but they will gain invaluable experience within the Italian basketball system.

Even for those who do not sign with a club, all athletes have the chance to showcase their talent. We invite local coaches and scouts to observe training sessions during the first few weeks, and players participate in friendly matches against local teams, creating opportunities to be noticed by professional organizations.

Whether representing the Institute in the semi-professional leagues, competing for their house in the Empire Collegiate League, or pursuing club placements, Rome City Institute’s basketball program provides student-athletes with a range of pathways to grow both on and off the court.
