Lacrosse in Italy, like many programs in Europe, first started rearing its head in the first half of the 2000’s. The first official club team was founded in Roma in 2006. Since then, new teams, both men’s and women’s, were born, together with the respective National teams. Currently, there are 8 men’s and 4 women’s programs established here in Rome with more sticks kicking about throughout the country, and with interest in the sport growing quickly both on Italian soil and abroad.
PROFESSIONAL LACROSSE ACADEMY
Playing abroad means measuring yourself with a new Lacrosse dimension. Our institute provides a professional environment that focuses on the development of our student-athletes on and off the field.
Lacrosse is a fast growing sport in Italy and Europe, but because of it’s short history, there are only a few teams competing in one national league. Like other sports in Italy, lacrosse is played in city clubs. Therefore, teams are diverse in nature and are composed, for the most part, of university students and young professionals. Lacrosse clubs are based in major cities such as Turin, Milan, Verona, Bologna, Pistoia, and Rome.
In addition to games and international club tournaments, the players also have the possibility to participate in numerous open tryouts for the national team. The players who are selected to represent Italy go on to play at some of the most prestigious international competitions, such as the European Lacrosse Championship and the World Lacrosse Championship.
Dominò Giancarlini was named head coach of the lacrosse program in August, 2022. She is part of the Italian Lacrosse Federation and currently plays for Roma Leones. “I want to share my passion for the game with all the international players attending Rome City Institute. Together, we can grow the game and improve the competition nationally”
MORE ABOUTOUR INSTITUTE
Our Institute is one of the most prestigious Institutes here in Italy. We provide a pathway for both men and women student-athletes to compete and study at the highest level. Our players train five days a week including weight lifting sessions. Our players will also have the chance to train and play with local professional lacrosse teams in the area. Be the next to join and take the next step in your lacrosse career!
We have a 100% signing rate which means that all of our student-athletes have signed with a basketball club upon their arrival in Italy. Our athletes go through a signing process that starts as soon as the admission is completed. We provide an initial valuation to illustrate what the opportunities are for every single athlete, followed by the athlete’s promotion to the clubs we work with. The rest happens in Italy where each of our student-athletes is placed into a team to
compete in official games.
