The birth year of Italian field hockey can be traced back to 1935: under the impetus of the upcoming Berlin Olympics. In the ‘50, the arrival of foreign technicians favored an increase in the technical level, which led the nation- al team to participate in the Olympic Games of 1952 and 1960. Previously within the “Italian Hockey and Skating Federation”, CONI recognized it as a “member” on 29 September 1973 as the Italian Field Hockey Federation (FIHSP); it became effective on 18 January 1978. From 18 November 1984, it took the name of the Italian Hockey Federation. The Italian Field Hockey Championship is the main sporting event for Italian field hockey clubs. It consists of three levels. The first 2 are at the national level, while the other one is at the regional level. The Italian Hockey Federation organ- izes and directs Serie A1, Serie A2 and Serie B. The overall staff of the two top leagues consists of a total of 26 clubs.
