COURSE DESCRIPTION

Fall semester

Sports Management - Sports Law and Finance

This course is designed to further student understanding of foundational, national and international, legal principles that govern the sport system. In particular, the course explores topics related to the role of the National Sport Organizations and Justice (NOC, FSN, National sport Justice system) and the complex interactions between its own laws and principles and the application of the International sport governing body’s rules and decisions (CIO, IFS, CAS/TAS). It will also include introductory classes on standard players contracts, sponsorship contracts, agency representation contracts and international players transfer rules, which will lead students into a discussion regarding the difference between amateurism and professionalism in the sport legal system. In the second part of the module, students will learn the principles of organization and administration as they apply to managing sport clubs and entities. The course will explore the basic concepts of financial planning budgeting and marketing to effectively manage a successful operation in the sport industry.

Sports Science – Nutrition

The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the physiology and anatomy behind exercise science looking specifically at how the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems respond to physical activity and how to enhance sport performance. Within the course, students will learn basic concepts of exercise physiology and energy metabolism, as well as nutrient requirements for a variety of physical activities including endurance, strength, speed and weight management. Moreover, it will also include notions about prevention and care of athletic injuries, with emphasis on qualities of a good athletic trainer, avoiding accidents and injuries, recognizing signs and symptoms of specific sports injuries and conditions, immediate and long-term care of injuries, and administration procedures in athletic training.

Italian Sports Methodology I

The course is designed to provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the  team-sports methodology from the sport classification to the understandingthe of the different sport performance models. 

Students will learn the transition fromMotor Skills to Sports Skills in the Age and Sequence of Acquisition of Fundamental Motor Skill.

We will analyze the components fundamental motor skills (FMSs) and specific conditioning capacities (SCCs) considering the coordination and physical skills. Students will learn the Basis for Training and how to   plan a training program.  The course will give to the student a deep knowledge on sport physiology, match analysis and team psychology.

Italian I

In this course students establish an introductory base in the Italian language in the four areas of language skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. It will introduce features of the Italian language needed for interaction in everyday practical situations, such as café, restaurants, accommodation, and shops. The course satisfies a limited number of immediate needs necessary for survival in the target language culture. Together with the language, we will also explore aspects of Italian culture. 

Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Sports

Through analyzing case material, among other resources, this module will share the insights and ‘know-how’ of selected well-known entrepreneurs within the sports industry who have taken goods and services from concept to market and beyond. It will assess why sport is such a fertile industry for entrepreneurial activity and how individuals can leverage this successfully. This module aims to develop, evaluate and critique entrepreneurial skills within the context of launching new products or services in the sports industry or for entrepreneurs who are looking to flourish within existing organizations. 

Spring semester

Sports Management- Sports Event & Marketing

This course explores the role of sports events and their contribution to the sports industry. It focuses on the challenges and opportunities a sports manager is confronted with during the planning, organization, and execution of medium- and small-scale events.

The main objective of the course is to encourage students to develop a strategic mindset, with a comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of the essential skills for working in the sports industry. The course introduces them to sport management career opportunities and sport principles as they apply to management, leadership style, marketing, communication, motivation, and entrepreneurship.

Sports Analytics

Starting from the presentation of the life cycle of an Organizing Committee of an international sporting event (i.e. FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games), the course will focus on the analysis of the evolution and current state of soccer and sport business in general, and the way they fit into the entertainment industry.

Central pillars of the analysis will be the management of mega events and the deep understanding of the sole customer of every aspect of the business: the fans.

Italian Sport Methodology II

The course is designed to provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the  team-sports methodology from the sport classification to the understanding of the different sport performance models. 

 

Students will learn the transition from motor Skills to Sports Skills in the Age and Sequence of Acquisition of Fundamental Motor skills. We will analyze the components of fundamental motor skills (FMSs) and specific conditioning capacities (SCCs) considering the coordination and physical skills. Students will learn the Basis for Training and how to plan a training program. The course will give to the student a deep knowledge of sports physiology, match analysis, and team psychology.

Sports Psychology - Leadership and Performance

The coaching lessons aim to teach how to manage one’s being, mentality and style within a team.
This part helps the participant familiarize with some notions of educational psychology and neurolinguistics.

Italian II

In this course students establish an introductory base in the Italian language in the four areas of language skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. At the successful completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in everyday spoken Italian by performing the following functions: greet people and introduce themselves, give and follow simple directions, respond to and ask questions, describe their families and friends, order items in a cafe, discuss their life at school and hobbies, express likes and dislikes, and recount recent past actions. Students will be able to read simple written texts in Italian and write short paragraphs on familiar topics. Students will also have gained specific knowledgeabout contemporary Italy through cultural readings on different topics.
